Currently, we're looking at the weekend of the 8th/9th August 2008.

We have a suitable sized room booked out at the Department of Computing, Imperial College, London on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th of August.
We'd welcome any comments on the idea of holding it in London (as opposed to Cambridge where it has been in previous years) - in particular accomodation may be more difficult/expensive for some people. Just edit this page or email ganesh@earth.li.

Date seems sensible. Any ideas for activities in place of punting? Pubbage should be somewhat easier to come by, although some thought might want putting into the combination of wifi and reasonable prices.

It's likely that there'll be people in need of crashspace and so forth, so once we've got a date and venue set it would be an idea for people to organise things here.

Dates would indeed seem sensible. There is a general consensus that we should be more proactive about this wonderful forthcoming event. Punting on the Thames is not really an attractive option, though using the London Eye to enforce a strict limit on the length of talks may be effective. Wifi is entirely possible given the expected level of university (non-)security and prices would be, by definition, entirely unreasonable due to london biases.

Per last year, all attendees should '''bring or make a nametag''' that identifies you by your real name and/or IRC name. If anyone wants to drag a roll of stickers and a pen along that'll help!

This may come as a shock, but I have actually had a decently-priced pint in London! More proactivity good - a little basic publicity is a good idea too, even if it's as simple as posts to -café and all that. Other things that might be due'd be spaces for people to jot down things like intending to show up, having a potential talk to give etc.

Anglo Haskell has previously happened at Microsoft Research, Cambridge in both 2006 and 2007 much fun was had! For 2008, we think it should happen again, but this time at Imperial College, London. Who's up for it?

Date and Venue

We have a suitable sized room booked out at the Department of Computing, Imperial College, London on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th of August.

Although it is already booked, this was really just a means to stop such resources being booked out by others. If there are large problems with these dates (and/or location) then things can indeed be changed.

The room that we have booked is quite nicely reconfigurable, so we can do break away groups and such or even multiple tracks if there is demand for this.

Lodging

It's likely that there'll be people in need of crashspace and so forth, so once we've got a date and venue set it would be an idea for people to organise things here.

Attendees

Per last year, all attendees should bring or make a nametag that identifies you by your real name and/or IRC name. If anyone wants to drag a roll of stickers and a pen along that'll help!

Programme

Planning will be taking place on IRC as per last year: #anglohaskell on irc.freenode.net

If you're having trouble following things on IRC, the discussion page on the wiki might be a good place to leave comments and questions.

Last year we had talks in the day on a Friday, followed by pubbage in the evening and assorted activities on the Saturday. This seemed to work, any other suggestions?

If possible, talks on Saturday and Other Stuff on Sunday might mean more people can make it. What do we all think? We currently don't have the room at Imperial booked on the Sunday, but this can be arranged, if there's demand for it. Indeed, if there's sufficient demand, we can do Other Stuff on the Friday night and then have talks all Saturday and Sunday. Options abound.

Talks

It wouldn't be AngloHaskell without some talks, so volunteers please! Previously we have had a largely more practical set of talks than you might find at Fun in the Afternoon or an academic event. This was a good thing, and some of the best talks were from people who were far from considering themselves as experts, so feel free to tell us about your experiences.

When we have a venue confirmed, we can also put up details of the equipment available for speakers. If we are going to hold this at Imperial then the room has multiple projectors and connections for laptops and so forth. It even has whiteboards.

  • Matthew Sackman could give a talk on a couple of subjects.
  • Tristan Allwood could similarly speak.
